Strawberries and Oranges
Na een week heel hard werken (dagen van 10/11 uur) om de training van aanstaande maandag en dinsdag rond te krijgen, zat er een pakje bij de post. Mijn "oilcloth" was gearriveerd. Een tijdje geleden hebben Joe en ik in een Mexicaanse restaurantje gegeten en ik was helemaal weg van hun tafeljtes. Blauwe en rode tafelpoten met felgekleurde plastic tafelkleden over het blad gespannen (van onderen vastgeniet). Die wilde ik ook voor onze 2 keukentafels! Onze keuken is idioot groot, en saai wit. Tijd voor meer kleur dus.
Eerst ben ik wat stoffenzaken afgereden, maar die hadden niet wat ik zocht. Dus op zoek op het internet en daar vond ik al snel wat ik zocht: "Oilcloth" heet het spul blijkbaar. En de wereld van "Oilcloth" is in ieder geval groter dan je denkt. Je kunt van placemats, tot hoedjes bestellen. Het was moeilijk kiezen. Ik wilde fruit dat stond voorop maar bananen, aardbeien, sinaasappels of vijgen? en dan als achtergrond: groen, geel, roze, rood, blauw of groen? Te veel keuze voor iemand als ik. Joe gaf na 2 avonden 'helpen' met de besliss te nemen op...
Ik heb de plastic kleden meteen op de tafels gelegd. Wel heftig ineens zoveel kleur en drukte in de keuken die altijd zo saai was. Ook waren de tafeljtes in het restaurantje klein en vierkant. De tafels in onze keuken zijn 3 keer zo groot. Maar ondanks dat, vind ik ze super! Iedere keer als ik ze zie moet ik glimlachen. Weet nog niet of ik ze zo laat hangen of dat ik ze ook van onder wil vastnieten en de tafelpoten wil verven. Even wennen aan dit eerste effect! Het zijn grote lappen stof van 15 dollar (= 10 euro) per stuk. Ik heb ze expres te groot besteld zodat ik er altijd nog iets anders mee kan doen.
Sinds kort kun je commentaar op mijn website achterlaten dus ideen zijn welkom. het motief met de vijgen was ook gaaf, maar ik heb helaas geen keukentafels meer..
After a week of long days and hard work at the office (around 10/11 hour days,) I was rewarded with a package that came by mail. My "oilcloth" had arrived! A while ago Joe and I had lunch in a Mexican restaurant and I loved their cute little tables. Blue and red table legs with brightly colored plastic tablecloths stapled on the top. I wanted this for my own tables! Our kitchen is idioticly large, and painted in dull white. Time for some color.
After visiting several fabric stores, who did not have what I was looking for, I decided to look on the internet. The world of oilcloth is larger than you can imagine. You can get place mats, hats, bags, etc in oilcloth. It was difficult to choose from the wide selection design. I wanted fruit, that I knew for sure but what kind: bananas, strawberries, oranges or figs? and then the background: green, yellow, pink, red, blue or green? Too much choice for someone like me. After 2 days, Joe gave up 'helping' to decide....
For now, I just put the cloth on the 2 tables in the kitchen. Quite intense to have so much color in the boring white kitchen. The tables in the Mexican restaurant were much smaller (tiny) and so the surface of brightness was not as overwheling. But still, I find the effect funnky! Every time when I enter the kitchen it makes me smile. I am not sure if I want to let it hang like this, but it is a start. I might paint the tables (just like the restaurant did) and then tightly staple the cloth around the top
