Our first Thanksgiving in New York. Knowing that during December our house is going to be full with visitors we decided to spend Thanksgiving together, at home. This was a great idea.

We spent a lot of money on dinner-for-two and enjoyed a quiet day, during which I finished painting the walls and Joe cooked. And boy did he cook. We had an amazing red snapper that was baked in the oven, covered by pounds of salt. We finished the whole snapper and made sure to dig into every corner of its skull to get all the "meat" out. It was an unconventional, but yummie Thanksgiving meal.

The next day we set out for West-Hartford and spent a great weekend with Josh and Kate. The weather was amazing and we cooked some more. But more importantly we laughed a lot. Bennett is a great little boy with a real sense of humor and easy going attitude. In order to please his and our own curiosity we visited an Alpaca farm, ran by one of Kate’s colleagues.

We had never heard of an Alpaca and so we did our researched before we headed out. What started as a joke: "Let's google the alpaca" became a frighteningly serious enterprise. Those animals are very expensive. A pregnant Alpaca, or one with a Cria (baby) are easily $18K. Unbelievable. Joe and Josh are now planning to start an Alpaca insurance agency as everybody with an Alpaca needs insurance.
The Alpaca originally comes from Peru, but the American breeders have managed to get a law installed that does not allow any more imports of foreign alpacas. They want to protect their own breed. Scary but true. No Alpaca from Peru will ever cross the American border again.
They are strange animals. I think somewhere in the mountains of Peru a lama and a sheep were very lonely.... and thus created the Alpaca. There is no other explanation for this creature.

A wonderful Thanksgiving that was quiet, relaxing, and loving at the same time. Exactly the point of Thanksgiving, if you ask me. Now we are ready for December during which, my sister, my parents and Joe's parents will visit us. In between, we also need to pack a holiday as Joe still has vacation days left over.

We are craving for sand, sun and sea
